Holehills Regeneration, Airdrie

The Holehills Regeneration in Airdrie is one of several large-scale, affordable housing developments underway in North Lanarkshire that involve the strategic delivery of low-rise, family homes in place of high-rise/ multi-storey residential accommodation.

Led by North Lanarkshire Council and Main Contractor, CCG (Scotland), a total of 150 two-and-three-bedroom homes are being delivered at Dykehead Road and are set for completion in autumn 2023.

Of the 150 homes, nineteen homes have enhanced specification in the form of an entirely zero-emissions energy strategy.

Formed as a ‘pilot’ initiative, the homes have been utilised to test quality and cost in the delivery of net zero homes, with the intent to apply enhanced specification to future residential developments as the local authority transitions to net zero carbon.

Arc-Tech (Scotland) supported the project with a suite of Renewable Services.

All 150 homes have solar PV panel systems installed on the roof. A total of 131 homes were built to Silver Active III specification and have between 6 & 14 panels per dwelling; however, each net zero home will have 13 or 14 panels to achieve the desired net zero performance which represents a total 1339 solar PV panels installed across the development.

Each net zero plot also has its own Electric Vehicle (EV) charging point.

The solar PV panel system is connected to a highly intuitive solar battery system supplied by Tesla.

Arc-Tech is a certified Tesla installer; each unit is installed externally to each plot and connects to the main switchboard for the property. Through its use, energy that is captured during daylight hours is stored for later use which allows the resident to take advantage of variable tariffs. As a result, the storage unit, when combined with an inherently thermally efficient property, will help to reduce fuel bills associated with regulated operational energy use.

Holehills was completed in late-2023.
