Case Studies

St Andrew’s Hospice is one of Scotland’s leading healthcare charities and has been operational at their premises in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, since 1986. Arc-Tech were brought on board to install a suite of M&E Services to compliment the extensive refurbishment and reconfiguration works that have now been successfully undertaken to upgrade the building’s facilities for patients and staff.

The refurbishment and reconfiguration of the Hospice’s Henderson Street site has seen the building retain its existing façade but internally it has been transformed to provide Hospice staff and patients with a building that has enhanced medical facilities and offers a much more flexible and functional layout. The level of reconfiguration has decreased the number of beds from 35 to 30, however, this is not detrimental to the overall service provided as the Hospice wanted to increase the level of privacy and offer greater levels of attention to the patients.

Patients will benefit from access to new terrace and garden spaces, an element that will be visible from the predominantly retained facade. Terraces are now visually more impactful and provide greater levels of light via an increased level of glazing whilst also being off-set by timber cladding.

Hospice staff will benefit with the new re-configuration of the ward area with operations split into two working wards rather than one, necessitating duplication of support facilities rather than triplicating as it operated previously. Support services have also been improved with new administration facilities and storage.

Arc-Tech were brought on board in May 2017 to assist with the upgrade in addition to providing an extensive range of Mechanical & electrical services, including all heating, domestic water, ventilation, medical gases, power, lighting, fire and security systems.

The project also benefitted from off-site prefabricated products in the form of a complete boilerhouse and M&E multi-service corridor distribution modules. This prefabrication was engineered from the Project REVIT model which was developed from the design model through construction to an as-installed status by Arc-Tech.
